News Story

New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has specified the reservation policy applicable to candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing programmes through the NEET UG 2026 counselling process. The reservation rules for seats under the All India Quota (AIQ) and central medical institutions will be implemented as per the applicable government norms.

Under the NEET UG 2026 counselling reservation policy, 10% of seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS) candidates, while 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) candidates.

NEET UG Counselling 2026: SC, ST and PwBD Reservation

The reservation policy also provides 15% reservation for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates in the applicable courses.

In addition, 5% horizontal reservation is provided for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Candidates seeking the PwBD benefit will have to meet the eligibility requirements prescribed under the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

The PwBD reservation applies horizontally across the relevant categories and is subject to verification of the candidate's disability status and documents.

State Quota MBBS Admission Reservation Rules

The reservation policy for MBBS admissions under the state quota will be determined by the respective state or Union Territory.

This applies to seats in government medical colleges, universities and institutions, as well as private medical colleges and universities where state quota rules are applicable. Therefore, candidates participating in state counselling should check the reservation policy notified by their respective state or UT.

Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category must have a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued according to the latest government guidelines. Similarly, candidates claiming SC or ST reservation must possess valid certificates meeting the applicable government requirements.

Documents Required to Claim Reservation Benefits

Candidates must submit the prescribed category documents during the NEET UG counselling process to claim reservation benefits.

For PwBD candidates, a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card or disability certificate, along with other required documents, will be necessary.

For admission to AIIMS, PwBD candidates will also be evaluated by the institute's designated medical board. The extent of specified disability will be assessed according to the applicable guidelines issued under the RPwD Act, 2016.

Reservation Benefits Subject to Document Verification

MCC has clarified that reservation benefits will be granted only after verification of the documents submitted by candidates. If a candidate is found to have submitted a false, fake, incorrect or invalid document, or provided incorrect or incomplete information to claim reservation, the candidate may be excluded from the admission process.

For MBBS admissions under the applicable central reservation framework, benefits will be available to classes, castes and tribes included in the respective central lists notified by the government from time to time.

Candidates participating in NEET UG 2026 counselling will be required to ensure that their category certificates and other supporting documents meet the prescribed guidelines.
