The deadline of August 31 applies to both fresh and renewal applications. Students have been advised to complete the application process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues or difficulties during submission.
The application and verification process for the NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27 will be conducted according to the following timeline:
Last date for fresh applications: August 31, 2026
Last date for renewal applications: August 31, 2026
Level-1 (L1) verification by Institute Nodal Officers: September 15, 2026

The ministry has directed the concerned officials to complete the verification process within the prescribed timelines to facilitate the timely disbursal of scholarships.
A key change introduced from the 2026-27 academic year allows students to apply for one merit-based scholarship scheme and one or more welfare-based scholarship schemes simultaneously.
However, students must meet the eligibility requirements and other conditions prescribed under each respective scholarship scheme.
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is a centrally sponsored scholarship programme aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections and helping reduce dropout rates at the secondary level.
The scheme encourages students to continue their education after completing Class 8 by providing financial assistance during their secondary and higher secondary education.
Under NMMSS, one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded every year to eligible students studying in Class 9. The scholarship can subsequently be renewed for Classes 10, 11 and 12, subject to the prescribed eligibility and renewal conditions.
The scheme is available to students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools.
The major benefits of the NMMSS include:
One lakh fresh scholarships are awarded every year.
Scholarships are initially provided to eligible students entering Class 9.
The scholarship can be renewed through Classes 10 to 12, subject to applicable conditions.
