News Story

Dallas was left reeling on September 12 after a gruesome killing at a motel turned an ordinary workplace dispute into a scene of horror.

Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian national, was brutally attacked and beheaded with a machete by his co-worker, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, at the Downtown Suites motel off Interstate 30 near Tenison Golf Course.

The fatal assault unfolded in front of Nagamallaiah’s wife and son, who desperately tried to intervene.

Police said the altercation began when Nagamallaiah asked Cobos-Martinez and a female colleague not to use a broken washing machine.

According to an arrest affidavit, the suspect took offense that the request was made through the female translator rather than directly to him. Moments later, Cobos-Martinez pulled out a machete and launched a frenzied attack.

Surveillance footage shows Nagamallaiah fleeing through the motel parking lot, screaming for help, as his attacker chased him down.

Despite his family’s efforts to shield him, Cobos-Martinez slashed repeatedly, ultimately decapitating the victim. Disturbingly, the suspect was seen kicking the severed head before discarding it in a dumpster.

Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel followed the bloodied suspect until police arrested him. Cobos-Martinez has been charged with capital murder and remains in custody without bond, under an immigration detainer.

The Consulate General of India in Houston expressed “deep condolences” and assured full support to the grieving family, confirming that it is closely monitoring the case.

Authorities are still investigating whether the killing was premeditated.
