In a major push to strengthen learning outcomes in government schools, the
Karnataka government has announced the expansion of its flagship Marusinchana scheme to 27 educational
districts, covering nearly 18,000 students from Classes 6 to 10 who are
struggling to keep pace academically.
Launched as a pilot to improve SSLC results, the
programme has already shown promising results across 8,821 schools in 17
districts during the 2024–25 academic year. Encouraged by its success, the
government will roll out the next phase of the scheme after the Dasara
holidays.
At its core, Marusinchana is designed as a 50-hour remedial learning programme
spread across five academic years. It aims to rebuild foundational skills,
provide students with structured practice materials, and equip teachers with
specialised training modules in Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Kannada,
and English. Hindi is not part of the programme.
The initiative will now be executed by the Department of State Educational Research and
Training (DSERT), with teacher training placed at the heart of the expansion.
According to the Department of School Education and Literacy, teachers will
undergo specialised capacity-building sessions, while students will receive
subject-wise practice books to strengthen their basics.
Officials say the expansion underscores the government’s commitment to bridging deep learning gaps in the public school system and ensuring that every student, regardless of their starting point, has a fair shot at academic success.
