In the remote Banbasti area of Kalchini block, West Bengal’s Alipurduar district, where resources are scarce and opportunities even scarcer, a young tribal student has scripted history.
Jemina Narzinari, the daughter of a
struggling family from East Santhali, has cleared the prestigious NEET-UG exam
without a single day of coaching—armed only with a mobile phone, internet
access, and an unshakable dream.
For Jemina, becoming a doctor is not just a career choice—it’s a mission. “We don’t have any coaching centres here. I had to rely on my phone and YouTube videos to study.
My parents struggled a lot,
but I never gave up,” she told was quoted as saying.
Her resolve paid off. She is now set to join MJN Medical College in Cooch
Behar, the first step in her journey to becoming a doctor who offers free
treatment to her community.
The milestone has sparked joy and pride in
Alipurduar, with locals hailing Jemina as proof that talent and perseverance
can overcome even the toughest odds. For a region where higher education often
feels out of reach, her success story has become a beacon of hope.
As Jemina prepares to leave home for the first time to pursue medicine, her triumph is not just personal—it carries the weight of inspiration for dozens of students in Banbasti and beyond.
