Maharashtra is gearing up to transform its gems and jewellery sector into a global powerhouse, with the state government announcing new skill development initiatives and infrastructure projects.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the Maharashtra State Skills
University (MSSU) will roll out certificate courses aimed at training a skilled
workforce for the industry.
Speaking at the inauguration of a gems and jewellery
exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, CM Fadnavis emphasized
the sector’s potential to strengthen India’s position on the global stage.
“These courses will not only generate skilled manpower but also ensure
sustained growth for the industry,” he said.
The chief minister also highlighted the
development of a state-of-the-art Gems and Jewellery Park at Mahape in Navi
Mumbai. Designed to support professionals and exporters, the park is expected
to catalyze a significant boost in exports. “The government is committed to
making this sector more employment-oriented, in collaboration with the Gems and
Jewellery Association,” Fadnavis added.
Tracing the rich legacy of Indian jewellery,
the CM noted that the country already enjoys a strong international presence.
“Our policies will continue to strengthen India’s global footprint in this
field,” he said.
To facilitate investment and industrial growth, Fadnavis pointed to a series of industry-friendly reforms, including simplified licensing, streamlined land acquisition processes, and robust infrastructure support.
An ‘Ease of Doing Business War Room’ has also been set up at Mantralaya to monitor and ensure the effective implementation of reforms. “We are committed to creating an environment that is conducive to business and innovation in Maharashtra,” he affirmed.
