In a nationwide push to instill values and character among students, the
Ministry of Education has directed all CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
(KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) schools to screen Chalo Jeete Hain, a National Award-winning film inspired by
episodes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood.
The screenings will run from September 16 to
October 2, 2025, coinciding with the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday. The
directive, issued on September 11, is part of the ministry’s Prerana experiential learning programme, which blends storytelling, hands-on
activities, and value-based lessons to nurture character, empathy, and
social-emotional growth in students.
Released in 2018, Chalo
Jeete Hain highlights nine core values of the Prerana initiative—including
courage, humility, service, innovation, and unity—drawing inspiration from
Modi’s early years and Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy: “Only
those who live for others, actually live.” The film won the
National Award for Best Non-Feature Film on Family Values at the 66th National
Film Awards.
The ministry said the film aims to serve as a
case study in moral reasoning and social responsibility, encouraging
self-reflection, compassion, and critical thinking among young learners.
Prerana, anchored in the historic Vernacular
School of Vadnagar—where Modi began his own education—has so far completed 65
batches across 650 districts. As its first cycle concludes, the ministry has
announced preparations for Prerana Utsav,
the next phase of the programme, beginning in October 2025.
Schools have been urged to ensure wide participation and make full use of film-based learning to bring ethical dilemmas, historical contexts, and human values to life for students.
