News Story

A 21-year-old engineering student has turned heads on social media with a viral claim that his earnings from X have already surpassed what many of his peers take home from college placements.

Kanav, who began posting on the platform barely two months ago, shared screenshots showing ₹67,419 in payouts between July 5 and August 30 — including ₹32,000 in August alone.

“Posting on X is already paying me more than average tier 3 campus placement and I literally only started 2 months ago,” he wrote in his post, which has since drawn wide attention.

To put his claim in perspective, Kanav pointed to his college placement report: of 72 students, only 14 landed paid jobs and 13 were offered unpaid internships.

The average package hovered around ₹2.9 lakh per annum — roughly ₹24,000 a month — with the highest salary at ₹5 lakh a year.

Monetizing impressions

Kanav credits X’s ad revenue-sharing programme for his earnings. The scheme, which requires a premium subscription, rewards creators for impressions and engagement on their posts.

By focusing on tech-related content, he built a following of 882 verified accounts and generated 28.4 million impressions in just a few months.

Mixed reactions online

The revelation has split opinion. Some users lauded his pace and persistence, with one commenting: “How did you even scale like this? Commendable.”

Others raised eyebrows over the numbers. “5.2k posts and 5.2k followers… that translates to 57 posts per day and 3.6 posts per waking hour. Really impressive but difficult to believe if you’re doing anything else,” a sceptic observed.

Yet for many, the story sparked curiosity rather than doubt. Several users asked Kanav for guidance on how to start monetising X content themselves.
