The Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) is set to strengthen climate
journalism in India with the launch of its Climate Change Media Hub at the
Chennai campus in November 2025. Established in partnership with Germany’s
Interlink Academy, the hub aims to build capacity, foster networking, and
create resources for journalists covering climate and environmental issues.
Over the next three years, the hub will run two
flagship eight-month programmes designed for different levels of experience:
the Climate Change Residency Programme for senior journalists and the Climate
Change Mentorship Programme for early-career reporters. Interested candidates
can find details and apply on the ACJ website, with the last date for
registration set for October 3.
The Climate
Change Residency Programme is tailored for senior Indian journalists
with at least seven years of experience in climate or environmental reporting.
Both newsroom-affiliated journalists seeking a temporary break and independent
reporters are eligible.
Meanwhile, the Climate Change Mentorship Programme targets young
journalists with two to three years of media experience, including freelancers
working with small or alternative media outlets. Participants will produce
multimedia stories from their locations under the guidance of veteran climate
and environment journalists.
Both programmes will provide stipends,
production support, and intensive workshops to enhance multimedia reporting
skills. Participants will also gain access to ACJ’s advanced visual, audio, and
digital production facilities, academic resources, specialised journals, and
the library. Orientation and training will include interactions with subject
experts and experienced mentors to ensure a hands-on, industry-aligned learning
experience.
With the launch of the Climate Change Media Hub, ACJ hopes to create a new generation of well-equipped journalists capable of reporting climate and environmental issues with accuracy, depth, and impact.
