The National Testing Agency (NTA) on October 7 rolled out a demo registration link to familiarize candidates with the JEE (main) 2026 examination process. The move comes amid reports that aspirants may no longer be allowed to select their preferred exam centres—a shift that could fundamentally change how one of India’s most competitive entrance tests is conducted.

According to sources, starting with the 2026 sessions, exam centres for both January and April sittings will likely be automatically allocated based on the candidate’s Aadhaar card address.

The purported overhaul is reportedly aimed at curbing cheating, enhancing transparency, and improving operational efficiency. To prevent issues related to eligibility or centre allocation, the NTA has urged aspirants to update their Aadhaar, UDID (for differently-abled candidates), and category certificates, if applicable, ensuring all details—name, date of birth (as per Class 10 certificate), latest photograph, address, and father’s name—are accurate.

Experts suggest that this system, if implemented, could eventually extend to other major nationwide exams, including NEET-UG and CUET-UG, marking a significant shift in India’s examination landscape.
