KU intensifies battle against drug abuse with twin awareness drives

The University of Kashmir August 14 deepened its campaign against substance abuse with back-to-back awareness programmes at its main and Zakura campuses, rallying experts, law enforcement and students under a shared mission — to protect Kashmir’s youth from the scourge of drugs.

At the main campus, the National Service Scheme (NSS) hosted a one-day workshop, “Empowering Youth: Combating Drug Abuse and Prioritising Mental Health,” featuring clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, senior police officers and social workers. 

Through interactive sessions and case studies, participants examined the psychological, legal and societal dimensions of drug abuse.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, inaugurating the event, called the rising tide of substance abuse “a grave concern that demands urgent, united action.”

“Our youth are the backbone of society — it is our duty to equip them with awareness, resilience and purpose.
