A first-year B.Tech student at Delhi’s South Asian University (SAU) has
accused four men of sexually assaulting her and attempting to gang-rape her on
campus, sending shockwaves through the university community. According to her
police complaint, the attack took place in a section of the campus currently
under construction.
In a harrowing account, the student said, “The four accused tore my clothes, touched me inappropriately, and tried
to gang-rape me.”
Maidan Garhi police received a PCR call around
3 pm on October 13 and immediately dispatched a team to the university. An
initial case of molestation was registered and later upgraded to include
attempted gang-rape after the victim provided a detailed statement.
Authorities confirmed that CCTV cameras cover
most of the campus. Investigators are meticulously reviewing footage from areas
identified by the student.
The international institution, which educates
students from all eight SAARC member nations, witnessed tense protests on
October 13 as students demanded justice. The university administration, which
has yet to release a public statement, said it is fully cooperating with
authorities.
The incident comes shortly after another sexual assault in Delhi, involving an 18-year-old MBBS student from Haryana who was allegedly raped at a hotel in Adarsh Nagar, further intensifying concerns over women’s safety in the capital.
