News Story

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a pioneering Master of Arts programme dedicated to the Bhagavad Gita, offering students a deep, structured exploration of India’s timeless philosophical heritage and its relevance to today’s challenges.

The two-year course delves into Vedanta, the Upanishads, scientific interpretations, and the Gita’s moral principles, with a focus on applying its teachings to leadership, conflict resolution, environmental ethics, and socio-political decision-making.

It builds on IGNOU’s existing Master’s in Vedic Studies, carving out a dedicated space for the Gita’s distinct ethical and philosophical insights.

In a parallel academic expansion, IGNOU has introduced a postgraduate diploma in Disaster Management, a diploma in Agricultural Cost Management, and a Bachelor’s in Home Science — all aligned with the University Grants Commission (UGC) framework and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Resilience through disaster management

The Disaster Management programme equips students to tackle crises ranging from floods and earthquakes to tsunamis and landslides, covering prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and post-disaster recovery.

Sustainability through agricultural cost management

The agriculture-focused diploma — jointly offered with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) — aims to improve farm profitability through cost control, sustainable practices, and market-ready agribusiness training.

It also fosters entrepreneurship among farmers and agribusiness stakeholders navigating today’s volatile, high-tech agricultural landscape.

By merging ancient wisdom with contemporary skill-building, IGNOU’s latest academic offerings aim to produce graduates capable of leading with knowledge, resilience, and vision.
