The festive season has lit up the mood for students across Uttar Pradesh, as
schools have declared an extended Diwali holiday. Both government and private
institutions will remain closed from October
20 to 23, creating a five-day
uninterrupted break when combined with the Sunday preceding the
festival.
The Uttar Pradesh Education Department confirmed
that October 20 and 21 will be
observed for Diwali, followed by Govardhan Puja on October 22 and Bhai
Dooj on October 23. A few
private schools are even starting the festivities earlier, closing from October 18 to give students a longer
respite.
For many families, this comes as a welcome
opportunity to travel, celebrate, and spend quality time together. The extended
holiday is expected to infuse a festive buzz across towns and cities as
students and teachers alike embrace the season’s spirit.
Meanwhile, other states are also marking the
festival with long closures. In Rajasthan,
schools are shut from October 13 to 24,
giving students nearly 12 days
of celebration.
This year, a brief confusion over the exact Diwali date emerged due to the Amavasya
Tithi spanning two days. However, astrologers and reports have largely
confirmed October 20 as the main
day for Diwali and Lakshmi Puja.
In a similar move, schools in Jammu division have also announced an
extended festive break. According to an official circular issued by Manisha, Personal Officer at the Directorate of
School Education, Jammu, all government and recognised private schools
up to the higher secondary level will remain closed from October 19 to November 2, reopening on November 3.
The extended festive holidays across northern India not only bring cheer to students but also reflect the spirit of togetherness and tradition that defines this time of year.
