Telangana has entered a landmark partnership with Australia’s Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University) to accelerate collaboration in life sciences education and research.
The initiative aims to link Hyderabad’s Genome Valley with Australia’s
advanced research ecosystem through joint PhD programmes, student and faculty
exchanges, and industry-focused research projects.
The collaboration is designed to bolster Telangana’s research and development capacity while aligning academic programmes with emerging sectors such as biotechnology, molecular biology, and bioengineering.
The Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, which facilitated the agreement,
highlighted that the partnership will cultivate globally competitive
researchers to meet the growing demands of India’s pharmaceutical and biotech
industries.
Building on RMIT’s previous initiatives in
India, including the BITS–RMIT Higher Education Academy, the alliance leverages
exchange and co-learning models to strengthen knowledge transfer and innovation.
“International collaborations like this are
key to our vision of establishing a dedicated School of Life Sciences to train
the next generation of scientists,” said Telangana IT and Industries Minister D
Sridhar Babu.
Shakthi Nagappan, CEO of Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, noted that the partnership will foster technology transfer, joint research centres, and innovation-driven academic programmes—further cementing Hyderabad’s reputation as a hub for cutting-edge biotech research.
