The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a stern warning to students after
identifying a Delhi-based institute offering illegal engineering and
management degrees. The Institute of
Management and Engineering, located at 1810/4, 1st Floor, Kotla
Mubarakpur, Delhi, was found to be operating in gross violation of the UGC Act, 1956.
According to the UGC notification, the institute
is neither recognized under Sections 2(f)
or 3 of the UGC Act nor empowered to award degrees under Section 22,
meaning any qualifications it offers hold no
legal validity.
“Taking admission in this self-styled
institution may jeopardize students’ careers,” the UGC warned, urging
prospective students to verify the credentials of any university or college
before enrollment.
Section 22 of the UGC Act clearly stipulates
that only universities or specially
empowered institutions can confer degrees, and no other person or body
has the authority to do so.
Students are advised to consult the official UGC website (www.ugc.gov.in) and refer to the HEIs section to confirm recognized universities and approved institutions.
