News Story

In a major step toward democratizing science education, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a series of free online Physics courses for Class 12 students on the government’s SWAYAM platform.

Developed as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), the initiative aims to bring high-quality learning directly to students’ screens, bridging educational gaps and making advanced Physics accessible to all — from remote learners to competitive exam aspirants.

Covering the full Class 12 Physics syllabus

The comprehensive set of modules has been crafted by NCERT experts to align with the official Class 12 Physics curriculum.

The first set of courses explores core concepts such as Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current, and Electromagnetic Waves.

Students can delve into real-world phenomena — from understanding electric fields and potentials to the behaviour of resistors, capacitors, and inductors in circuits — and grasp how electromagnetic waves drive modern technologies.

A second series of 43 modules covers Ray and Wave Optics, Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter, Atoms and Nuclei, Semiconductors and Electronic Devices, and Communication Systems, helping learners transition smoothly from fundamental principles to complex topics like diffraction, quantum theory, and electronics.

Blending technology with learning

Each module integrates multimedia resources — including video lectures, downloadable study materials, animations, quizzes, and assignments — to encourage active learning and self-paced progress tracking.

NCERT said the initiative reflects its broader vision to foster a stronger scientific mindset among students by merging traditional pedagogy with digital innovation.

“Our goal is to make Physics both accessible and enjoyable for every learner,” the council noted, underscoring its mission to reshape classroom education through open, inclusive, and interactive online learning.
