News Story

For the 2025–26 academic year, 11,350 new medical seats have been added across colleges, including AIIMS and JIPMER, taking the overall tally to the revised figure. The NMC clarified that a mismatch of 100 seats in the previous list was due to typographical errors while updating data for the Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Gujarat) and the Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences. Around 456 seats were also reduced during the annual renewal process.

Stray round counselling from November 4

Students who missed out in earlier NEET UG counselling rounds can register for the stray round beginning November 4. Participating colleges will release a tentative seat list soon after. Candidates must report to the allotted colleges with all required documents to confirm admission — failure to do so will lead to loss of admission, a one-year NEET ban, and forfeiture of counselling fees.

Why it matters

With over 1.8 million NEET aspirants vying for a limited number of seats, even minor corrections in the seat matrix can shift admission prospects for thousands. The NMC’s updated figures now offer a clearer picture for candidates as the final counselling phase begins.
