The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a fresh correction to the NEET UG 2025 seat matrix, trimming India’s total medical seats to 1,28,875—a reduction of 50 seats from its earlier tally.
The revision follows the discovery of a typographical error in the previous list, which had inflated the count to 1,28,925. The NMC clarified that the discrepancy stemmed from seat updates for Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Gujarat and the newly established Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences.
For the 2025–26 academic year, the NMC has added 11,350 new seats across medical institutions, including AIIMS and JIPMER, offset partially by a reduction of 456 seats during the renewal process.
Meanwhile, the stray round of NEET UG counselling is set to begin on November 4, offering one final chance for students who missed earlier allotments.
Candidates must report to their allotted colleges with required documents or risk losing their admission opportunity, facing a one-year debarment from NEET, and forfeiting their counselling fees.
As competition for medical seats intensifies, even a marginal change in the seat matrix can alter prospects for thousands of aspirants navigating the final stages of admission.
