AIIMS New Delhi has clinched the country’s highest recognition for institutional excellence, emerging as the top-ranked medical research institution at the DHR–ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit 2025.

The Gold award for Overall Performance and Institutional Excellence cements AIIMS’ position at the forefront of India’s biomedical research ecosystem.

Held in the Capital, the summit — organised by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) — brought together senior scientists, institutional leaders, and policymakers from across India.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Singh Patel inaugurated the event, while NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr V K Paul attended as Guest of Honour.

Patel highlighted India’s rising global stature in health research, crediting initiatives such as MedTech Mitra, Rotavac, and the country’s COVID-19 vaccine prowess.

The minister said these advances reflect India’s broader push for scientific self-reliance and a health system driven by research-enabled solutions that reach communities on the ground.

Multi-dimensional excellence recognised

The Gold ranking awarded to AIIMS New Delhi acknowledges its performance across a spectrum of indicators — high-quality research output, groundbreaking innovation, translation of discoveries into diagnostics and therapies, and wide-reaching public-health impact.

The institute has consistently led national charts for high-impact publications, while its translational work has accelerated the adoption of lab discoveries in real-world clinical settings.

AIIMS has also shaped national health policy through evidence-backed inputs and strengthened India’s scientific pipeline by mentoring young researchers.

Robust collaborations, strong extramural funding, and seamless integration of patient care, teaching, and research further elevated its national evaluation scores, underscoring its ability to turn science into society-level outcomes.

Leadership hails ‘collective achievement’

AIIMS Director Professor M Srinivas applauded faculty, researchers, staff, and students for the milestone.

“This national Gold ranking is a collective achievement that reflects AIIMS’ enduring pursuit of excellence in science, service, and innovation. It is a proud moment for the entire AIIMS community,” he said.

Looking ahead, AIIMS New Delhi reaffirmed its commitment to driving India’s health-research ambitions, aligning its scientific mission with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The institute plans to intensify work on innovation, capacity building, and high-impact research that shapes the country’s public-health trajectory.
