OP Jindal Global University (JGU) has announced five new Short-Term Study Abroad Programmes (ST-SAPs) in Japan for Summer 2026, marking one of the most expansive Japan-focused international mobility drives led by an Indian institution.
The launch significantly strengthens JGU’s long-standing engagement with
Japanese universities and its wider push to globalise its academic ecosystem.
According to an official statement, the
programmes build on a decade of growing India–Japan cooperation in education,
technology, culture and youth exchange. JGU currently maintains more than 25 institutional
partnerships in Japan — among the largest such networks maintained by any
Indian university — including collaborations with leading institutions such as
the University of Tokyo, Chuo University, United Nations University, Hiroshima
University, Ritsumeikan University and others.
The new short-term programmes will run between
15 June and 3/4 July 2026, each
anchored in a distinct academic theme and hosted by a major Japanese
institution:

Each programme integrates academic coursework
with field visits, expert interactions and cultural immersion, designed to
deepen students' understanding of Japan’s governance models, technological
innovation, sustainability frameworks, social dynamics, and broader academic
landscape.
JGU said the initiative aligns with the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade,
signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan in August 2025,
which placed strong emphasis on education partnerships and youth mobility. The
strengthened diplomatic framework, the university noted, has enabled Indian
institutions to pursue wider and more diverse collaborations with Japan.
JGU’s Japan engagement has grown steadily over
the years, including its flagship 2025 study abroad programme with Temple
University Japan, which saw a cohort of 40 students participate. The five new
2026 programmes represent the university’s largest annual Japan-focused
academic mobility effort to date.
With one of India’s most extensive Japan partnerships, JGU said the new programmes reaffirm its commitment to offering students meaningful global exposure and to shaping future-ready graduates equipped with international perspectives.
