The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that practical
examinations, project evaluations, and internal assessments for Classes 10 and
12 will be held from January 1 to February
14, 2026, setting the stage for the upcoming board examination cycle.
In a circular issued on November 18, the board released
a comprehensive subject-wise marking scheme
for the 2026 exams, clarifying the distribution of theory, practical, project,
and internal assessment marks across all subjects. Students can access the
detailed breakdown on the CBSE’s official website.
CBSE has also urged schools to maintain strict accuracy when uploading marks,
noting that errors during this process have been reported “frequently” and must
be avoided. The board cautioned institutions not to seek corrections later
using “various excuses,” emphasising that all instructions in the circular must
be read and followed carefully.
A complete annexure listing Class 10 and 12
subjects has been provided to help schools conduct assessments smoothly. It
includes information on:
·
Subject
codes and names
·
Maximum
marks for theory, practicals, projects, and internal assessments
·
Whether an external examiner will be appointed
·
Whether the practical answer book will be supplied by the board
·
The type
and page count of answer books for theory exams
CBSE reiterated that each subject carries 100 marks in total, distributed as per
the structure outlined in the annexure.
The board’s latest updates come as schools begin preparations for the 2026 examination cycle, with CBSE stressing strict adherence to protocol to ensure error-free assessments.
