The affiliation of 292 educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh has been
restored, the state government informed the Assembly on November 27, clarifying
that the suspension was temporary and linked only to incomplete formalities. No
institution had its affiliation revoked, Education Minister Rohit Thakur
emphasised.
Responding to a written query from BJP MLA
Rakesh Jamwal, Thakur said that the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education
(HPBOSE) had suspended the affiliations due to pending documentation and
compliance requirements, all of which have now been fulfilled.
Thakur also announced that the process to seek
affiliation for around 100 government senior secondary schools with the Central
Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is already underway—marking a significant
shift in the state's approach to school governance and curriculum
competitiveness.
As part of broader reforms, the government
plans to upgrade HPBOSE-affiliated schools into “centres of excellence” and
establish Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools across the state. The model, he
said, is designed to be student-focused and quality-driven, with the aim of
making the education ecosystem more competitive while reducing irregular
practices in private institutions.
Despite the inclusion of CBSE schools in the
government system, the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board will continue to
function independently, Thakur told the House. He assured that students in
government schools—irrespective of affiliation—will continue to receive free
uniforms, textbooks, and other entitlements.
Both the CBSE and HP Board curricula are based on NCERT frameworks, he noted, arguing that the transition and coexistence of the two systems will create greater academic harmony while expanding student opportunity.
