In a first for the country, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced a postgraduate certificate program designed to arm professionals with the skills to tackle next-generation cyber threats powered by artificial intelligence.

Developed in partnership with Bengaluru-based Futurense, the nine-month hybrid course on AI and Generative AI-powered Cybersecurity will commence on October 18, 2025. The initiative comes at a time when cybercrime has begun leveraging AI for large-scale phishing campaigns, deepfake fraud, and attacks targeting large language models (LLMs).

Unlike traditional training that focuses on securing networks, this program pivots to protecting algorithms, data models, and cloud infrastructures—areas most vulnerable to generative AI misuse. Participants will gain hands-on exposure to over 30 industry-grade tools, including LangChain, GPT platforms, SOAR, and SIEM systems, while working on enterprise-level projects reviewed by mentors from Amazon, Gallagher, and Paytm.

Mapped to critical industry roles such as SOC analyst, cloud security associate, and LLM risk evaluator, the curriculum also incorporates CISSP preparation and a red-teaming handbook for generative AI. Sessions will be delivered live on weekends by IIT faculty and industry experts, with an optional campus immersion at Roorkee.

The demand for such expertise is pressing. A Fortinet report in 2024 warned that 80 percent of Indian firms face amplified risks from generative AI, while the ISC projects India will require over one million trained cybersecurity professionals.

Open to early-career engineers, developers, and analysts, the programme is priced at ₹1.40 lakh plus GST, with flexible EMI options. A bridge course will also be offered for those without a formal background in security.

Graduates will exit with internationally benchmarked training aligned to GDPR, NIST, and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act—positioning them at the forefront of AI-era cybersecurity.
