The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) has officially opened applications for its Summer Undergraduate Research Exposure (SURE) Internship 2026, offering undergraduate and postgraduate students across India a chance to engage in hands-on research at one of the country’s premier technical institutes. The deadline for online applications is March 10, 2026.

A total of 250 internship seats are available, with 100 reserved exclusively for women candidates. Only students from institutions other than IIT Hyderabad are eligible to apply.

Fellowship, duration and accommodation

Selected interns will receive a fellowship of ₹15,000 for the full two-month programme, running tentatively from May 15 to July 14, 2026. Candidates opting for shorter durations will be paid ₹7,500 per month or ₹10,000 for one-and-a-half months. Part-time or online internships are not permitted.

IIT Hyderabad will provide hostel accommodation in its student hostels, with interns responsible for mess charges.

Eligibility criteria

The programme targets high-achieving students across multiple disciplines:

·        First-year MSc students in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology

·        First-year MA students; second or third-year BTech or BDes students in any branch

·        Third or fourth-year students in an Integrated BTech-MTech programme

Applicants must rank among the top 20% of their class, certified by their institution’s head or principal, and be full-time, regular students throughout the internship.

Selection process

The selection will occur in two stages:

1.     Preliminary screening of applications

2.     Department- or mentor-wise online interview

Evaluation will consider consistent academic performance, extracurricular achievements, competition participation (including Olympiads and the National Talent Search Examination), and interview performance.

Selected candidates will be notified via email, with the final list posted on the IIT Hyderabad SRC office webpage. Applicants not selected will not receive individual communication. IIT Hyderabad’s decision is final, with no further correspondence entertained.
