A 10-year-old mathematics prodigy from Trabzon, Turkey, has stunned the global academic community after securing a flawless victory in an international STEM Olympiad, underlining both exceptional talent and the challenges young achievers often face beyond academics.

Lina Saka, a primary school student from the Yomra district, clinched first place worldwide in mathematics, competing against participants from 153 countries. She achieved a perfect 100% score, outperforming students across all grade levels in what organisers describe as one of the most competitive global platforms for young learners.

Demonstrating remarkable speed and precision, Lina solved all 25 questions within 60 minutes. Reflecting on her performance, she later said she approached the contest like a routine test, with her confidence building steadily as she progressed. Even before the official results, she sensed she had delivered an extraordinary performance.

Early spark, steady rise

Lina’s journey with mathematics began well before she entered primary school. Over time, she has consistently competed in international Olympiads, building an impressive portfolio of achievements.

She previously ranked first in Turkey and 310th globally in the American Math Olympiad, secured a silver medal at the FISO Olympiad, and has now added a gold medal at the STEM Olympiad with a perfect score.

Her father describes her as disciplined and intellectually curious, highlighting her ability to grasp complex concepts quickly and her strong reading habits.

Following her world-topping performance, Lina has been invited to represent Turkey at prestigious international finals scheduled in Rome, Singapore and Dubai in June and July.
