News Story

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has announced the schedule for scrutiny, special, and compartment examinations following the declaration of the Class 12 (Intermediate) results 2026, offering multiple pathways for students to reassess or improve their performance.

Students dissatisfied with their marks in one or more subjects can apply for scrutiny of their answer sheets from March 25 to April 2, 2026, through the online mode.

The board is expected to release detailed guidelines for the scrutiny process separately. Under this provision, answer sheets are rechecked, and marks may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged.

Simultaneously, the application window for the Intermediate Special Examination 2026 and Intermediate Compartment Examination 2026 will also remain open during the same period.

According to a senior board official, the special examination system—introduced in 2019—caters to students who were unable to appear for the main examination or missed filling out the exam form.

It also allows candidates to improve their scores within the same academic year, thereby avoiding a loss of time.

Meanwhile, students who have failed in one or two subjects can opt for compartment examinations, enabling them to clear specific papers without repeating the entire academic year.

The board has set an ambitious target to declare the results of both special and compartment examinations by May 31, 2026. This timeline is aimed at ensuring that students can secure admission to higher education institutions within the same academic session.

Understanding the Options:

Scrutiny (Re-evaluation):

A rechecking process for students unsatisfied with their marks. No re-examination is conducted; scores may change after verification.

Special Examination:

Designed for students who missed the main exam or could not complete the application process. It offers a full reattempt within the same academic year.

Compartment Examination:

Meant for students who failed in one or two subjects, allowing them to reappear only for those papers and clear backlogs.

In essence, the BSEB’s structured approach ensures that students are provided fair opportunities to review, recover, and progress academically without losing a year.
