The National Institute of Open Schooling
(NIOS) has announced the schedule for its Class 10 and Class 12 public
examinations for the April 2026 session, with theory papers set to commence on
April 10 and conclude on May 6.
The exams will be conducted at designated
centres across the country, with most papers scheduled between 2:30 pm and 5:30
pm. A few subjects, however, will end earlier at 4:30 pm. Students have been
advised to carefully verify subject-wise timings while downloading the detailed
date sheet from the official website.
In a significant update, NIOS has revised
examination dates for select subjects in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West
Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The changes aim to prevent clashes with
assembly elections, state holidays and other major competitive examinations
during the same period. Candidates in these states are urged to refer to the
updated regional schedule.
Admit cards for registered candidates will be
released on the student portal ahead of the examinations. Students can access
their hall tickets through their login credentials on the official platform.
The board has indicated that results are
expected within seven weeks of the final examination. However, it has clarified
that it will not entertain queries regarding the exact declaration date.
Results will be published online once finalised.
Data from the previous academic cycle shows
that 1,06,082 learners had registered, with 1,02,495 opting for certification
by enrolling in at least five subjects. Of these, 89,847 students appeared for
the exams, and 56,350 cleared them, resulting in an overall pass percentage of
62.72%.
Performance by gender reflected a marginal edge for female candidates, who recorded a pass percentage of 63.32%, compared to 62.31% among male candidates.
