Delhi University’s undergraduate admissions have inched closer to
saturation, with 68,116 seats confirmed
following the completion of the second round of upgradation, the university
announced on August 22.
According to official data, 17,595 students applied for upgradation in the second round, of which 7,685 successfully secured admission to higher-preference courses or
colleges, while 46,257 chose to retain their earlier allotments. In addition, 2,808
allocations were made under performance-based and supernumerary categories.
Per the admission schedule, candidates must
accept their allotted seats by 4:59 pm on
August 23, with colleges required to verify applications by 11:59 pm the same day. The deadline for
online fee payment is August 24.
DU will publish the list of vacant seats
at 5 pm on August 25, following which unadmitted candidates may apply
for the Spot Round until August 27.
Spot Round allocations will be declared on August 28.
Earlier this month, DU had already confirmed
admissions for 71,130 undergraduate
students against a total capacity of 71,624 seats across 79 programmes in 69 colleges. In
that phase, 34,069 students sought
upgrades, while 35,889 froze
their choices, resulting in 5,930
upgrades.
The academic session commenced on August 1, in line with UGC’s calendar. A significant development under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), introduced via the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, is that 31,004 students — over 55% of those eligible — have opted for the optional fourth year. The policy allows flexible exits after one, two, or three years, granting a certificate, diploma, or degree respectively.
