News Story

Thousands of students in Uttar Pradesh who missed out on scholarships for the 2025–26 academic year have been given a fresh opportunity, with the state government reopening its scholarship and fee reimbursement portal.

The decision, taken under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is aimed at ensuring that no eligible student is excluded due to missed deadlines or procedural hurdles. The scheme will cover students from the general category, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and the transgender community.

Officials said the move addresses technical and administrative challenges that may have prevented applicants from accessing financial assistance earlier.

Reapply window opens, benefits extended

The Social Welfare Department will now allow students who failed to apply earlier to submit fresh applications and avail benefits.

A similar drive last year disbursed scholarships and fee reimbursements worth ₹81.12 crore to 53,041 students across the state. Of this, ₹30.65 crore was allocated to 25,395 SC students, while ₹50.47 crore benefited 27,646 students from the general category.

Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge) Asim Arun underscored the government’s push for inclusive education, stating that the initiative reflects a commitment to equal opportunities and aims to ensure that no student drops out due to financial constraints.

Push for inclusion, long-term impact

Education experts note that such scholarship schemes play a critical role in improving enrolment and retention, particularly among socially and economically marginalised groups.

By reopening the portal, the government is seeking to bridge educational gaps and enable students to pursue higher studies without financial barriers. The move is expected to support thousands in continuing their education while strengthening long-term outcomes such as academic performance, skill development, and employability.

The state has steadily expanded its education welfare initiatives under the current administration, with scholarships and fee reimbursements forming a key pillar of efforts to reduce dropout rates, support girl students, and uplift marginalized communities.

With a growing reliance on digital platforms, Uttar Pradesh has also emerged as one of the leading states in efficiently implementing scholarship schemes, streamlining both application and disbursal processes.
