Admissions to undergraduate programmes at the University of Delhi are expected to begin in the third week of May, closely aligned with the commencement of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026, officials said on April 6.

The university will continue to conduct admissions through its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal, with the process unfolding in multiple phases, beginning with student registration.

Officials indicated that the admission timeline is largely dependent on CUET results. Once scores are declared, candidates will be able to apply for eligible programmes based on subject mapping criteria.

According to the National Testing Agency, CUET-UG 2026 is tentatively scheduled between May 11 and May 31.

DU Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi said the university is preparing to open registrations around the third week of May. “The registration process for DU will begin once the CUET exams begin. While details are still being finalized, our focus remains on completing admissions on time so that classes can start at the earliest,” she said.

Gandhi added that the university will attempt to compress the allocation timeline to minimize delays. “Even a reduction of one or two days per round could significantly speed up the process,” she noted.

In recent years, faculty members have raised concerns over disruptions to the academic calendar following DU’s shift to a CUET-based admission system, citing delays in completing admissions.

To address student concerns, the university is also working to make the CSAS portal more user-friendly. Additional prompts and guidance features are expected to be introduced to reduce errors during the application process.

The admissions office has also advised students to carefully choose their CUET subjects in alignment with what they studied in Class 12. A minimum 50% overlap between CUET subjects and Class 12 subjects will be required for subject mapping—a critical step in securing admission through the CSAS portal.
