In a push to bring menstrual health into formal academic discourse, University of Delhi’s Indraprastha College for
Women (IPCW) has introduced a certificate course focused on menstrual health
and hygiene, in collaboration with the UNESCO
Regional Office for South Asia.
Titled “Empower
Flow: A Certificate Course for Menstrual Health & Hygiene – Spotlight Red”,
the programme has been launched as a structured academic initiative aimed at
addressing awareness gaps and challenging persistent stigma around
menstruation.
According to organisers, the course integrates
health education, gender studies and social awareness, equipping students with
the knowledge and skills needed for informed conversations and community
outreach. It seeks to normalise menstrual discourse while encouraging
evidence-based understanding of the subject.
The launch event brought together key academic
voices, with Nayana Sahasrabuddhe
attending as chief guest. Speakers including Joyce
Poan and Huma Masood underscored
the urgent need to embed menstrual health within mainstream education systems.
The programme was led by IPCW principal Poonam
Kumria and coordinated by faculty members.
Experts at the event highlighted that limited
awareness and inadequate access to menstrual health resources continue to
disrupt the education of many students. The course, IPCW said, is designed to
provide a dedicated platform for dialogue and foster a more informed, inclusive
approach to menstrual health.
The college indicated that the initiative
could be expanded through outreach programmes across other institutions and
communities, signalling a broader effort to integrate gender-linked health
issues into academic frameworks.
Separately, undergraduate admissions at the
University of Delhi are expected to begin in the third week of May 2026,
shortly after the commencement of the Common
University Entrance Test (UG). Officials said the process will be
conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal, beginning
with registration and followed by multiple rounds of seat allocation.
Admissions will be based on CUET (UG) scores.
After results are declared, candidates will need to complete subject mapping
and apply for programmes aligned with their eligibility.
As per tentative information shared by the National Testing Agency, CUET-UG 2026 is likely to be held between May 11 and May 31.
