News Story

The Union government has cleared the opening of four new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with classes set to commence from the 2026–27 academic session.

The move follows separate approvals issued in December 2024 and October 2025, under which new KVs were sanctioned subject to land transfer and availability of temporary infrastructure by sponsoring authorities.

Among the newly approved institutions are Kendriya Vidyalaya Madan Negi in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal and Kendriya Vidyalaya Gool in Ramban district of Jammu & Kashmir—both part of the 85 schools sanctioned in December 2024. Additionally, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3 Darbhanga (AIIMS) in Bihar and Kendriya Vidyalaya Shamli in Uttar Pradesh are among the 57 schools approved in October 2025.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has confirmed that land has been transferred and suitable temporary accommodation has been arranged in all four cases, paving the way for immediate operationalisation.

Initially, the schools will begin with single sections at foundational and primary levels. In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Darbhanga (AIIMS) and Shamli KVs will offer classes from Balvatika I to III along with Classes I to V. In contrast, the Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir schools will start directly from Classes I to V. Expansion to higher classes will take place in phases, subject to feasibility and further approvals.

All four institutions will operate from temporary campuses — primarily government school premises—until permanent infrastructure is developed.

As per KVS guidelines, the admission process for these newly established schools must be completed within 30 days after all pending formalities, including land transfer and possession of temporary facilities, are finalised.

Meanwhile, KVS has already begun the admission process for the 2026–27 academic session. The first provisional lists for Class I admissions have been released, with subsequent lists being issued in phases based on seat availability. Admissions to higher classes are being conducted offline, depending on vacancies at individual schools.
