In a major step towards real-time
governance in education, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL)
is set to launch a mobile app that will live-track activities in all government
and aided schools across Karnataka.
From classrooms to mid-day meals,
student attendance to teaching practices, the app will allow inspectors to
upload on-the-spot updates, creating a centralized, live database of school performance.
“Karnataka has over 52,000
government and aided schools, and with this app, information about facilities
and learning outcomes will be available at our fingertips,” said Dr. K.V.
Trilok Chandra, Commissioner of Public Instruction.
The app—successfully tested and with
officials already trained—will become mandatory for monthly inspections by
officers such as DDPIs, BEOs, and CRPs. Inspectors will log in using a school’s
DISE code, triggering a checklist that must be verified and uploaded instantly.
Currently, most officials submit
delayed or incomplete written reports, making it difficult to monitor school
development. The new system is expected to plug these gaps, ensuring
accountability and timely intervention.
The inspection app will be integrated
with the Student Achievement Tracking System (SATS) and the newly introduced
Lesson Based Assessment (LBA) framework, allowing academic progress of
individual students to be tracked alongside infrastructure and welfare schemes.
“This will transform inspections
from a routine exercise into a dynamic monitoring tool,” Dr. Trilok Chandra
said. “We will now have a single, live repository of information covering every
aspect of schooling.”
With over 53 lakh students enrolled
in government and aided schools, officials say the move could reshape how
Karnataka oversees infrastructure, learning outcomes, and flagship initiatives
like mid-day meals—ushering in a new era of data-driven education governance.
