Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Primary, Physical Education Teacher Posts Announced; CET to Carry 70% Weightage

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Education Department has announced recruitment for various teaching posts, including primary school teachers, graduate primary school teachers, physical education teachers, computer science teachers and secondary school assistants.

The competitive examination for the respective posts will be conducted at designated district centres. The examination will be held in English and Kannada. Candidates will have to secure at least 35% marks in each paper to qualify.

The selection process will be based on a prescribed merit formula, with the Common Eligibility Test (CET) carrying significant weightage for several teaching posts.

Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: CET Weightage and Selection Process

For candidates applying for primary school teacher posts for Classes 1 to 5, the merit will be calculated using the following weightage:

Candidates applying for Classes 1 to 5 primary teacher posts are required to have a DElEd or Diploma in Special Education, as prescribed by the department.

For candidates holding four-year teacher education degrees such as BA Ed, BSc Ed or BE Ed, the CET will carry 70% weightage, TET Paper 1 will carry 20%, and the four-year teacher education degree will carry 10%.

Graduate Primary Teacher Recruitment: Classes 6 to 8

For graduate primary school teacher posts for Classes 6 to 8, the CET score will carry 70% weightage, while TET Paper 2 will account for 20%.

For candidates with qualifications such as DElEd, BEd, Diploma in Science Education or BEd in Special Education, the remaining marks will be calculated using the prescribed weightage for the degree examination and teacher education course.

Computer Science Teacher Recruitment

For candidates applying for Computer Science Teacher posts for Classes 1 to 8, the CET score will carry 85% weightage, while the prescribed degree qualification will account for the remaining 15%.

This makes the CET score a key component of the merit calculation for computer science teacher recruitment.

Physical Education Teacher Recruitment

For Physical Education Teacher Grade 2 posts, the CET score will carry 85% weightage.

The remaining weightage will be divided between the PUC or equivalent examination and the prescribed physical education certificate or diploma:

Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Age Limit

According to the eligibility conditions, candidates should be at least 21 years old to apply for the teaching posts.

The maximum age limit for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Category 1 and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) is 45 years, subject to the applicable recruitment rules.

Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Merit List and Selection

The Education Department will prepare merit lists based on the prescribed weightage for each post. Candidates will be shortlisted for document verification according to their merit.

As per the recruitment process, candidates numbering twice the notified vacancies will be called for document verification based on merit.

Following the document verification process, the department will prepare and issue the final selection list. Appointments will then be made according to the order of merit and applicable recruitment rules.
