New Delhi: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has responded to concerns raised by a section of CUET PG 2026 candidates, who have questioned the institute's score normalisation methodology, alleging that it has adversely affected the admission prospects of around 200 General category candidates. However, TISS has maintained that the normalisation process is intended to ensure fairness and equity across different examination sessions.
The concerns emerged after candidates alleged that the score normalisation formula resulted in lower adjusted scores despite high raw marks, potentially impacting admissions to various postgraduate programmes, including MA courses and MBA admissions offered by the institute.
Several CUET PG 2026 aspirants have expressed dissatisfaction with TISS' normalisation formula, arguing that it has created significant differences between raw scores and normalised scores. According to the candidates, nearly 200 students may have been affected, particularly those who appeared for the General category question paper.
Candidates have urged the institute to review the formula and provide greater transparency regarding the calculation process, stating that admission outcomes should accurately reflect their examination performance.
Responding to the concerns, TISS clarified that the score normalisation formula has been implemented to maintain fairness among candidates who appeared in multiple examination shifts with varying difficulty levels. The institute stated that the normalisation process follows accepted statistical methods to create a level playing field for candidates appearing in different shifts.
According to TISS, the normalisation process helps reduce any advantage or disadvantage arising from differences in question paper difficulty and ensures a fair comparison of candidates' performance.
The institute has not announced any changes to the existing normalisation policy and has advised candidates to rely only on official updates and admission notifications published on its website regarding counselling and seat allocation.
A section of CUET PG 2026 candidates has questioned TISS' score normalisation formula, alleging that it has affected the admission prospects of around 200 students. TISS, however, has maintained that the normalisation process is designed to ensure fairness and provide equal opportunities for candidates appearing in different examination sessions.
